Historical
Before becoming GC III /
9, the group was created in 1936 as a "Regional Air Group"
to allow Reservists to fly under the leadership of active cadres.
On February 1st, 1937, Commander VIGUIER took the leadership of
the Group which became the GARC I / 562 (Regional Air Fighting Group),
with an Escadrille led by Captain BILLON.
At the outbreak of hostilities,
the Group is mobilized on Dewoitine D501. On September 25, 1939,
born a second Squadron, the 2/562 commanded by Captain CHEVALIER.
The transformation on Bloch
MB152 begins in November 1939. On January 11, 1940, the Group officially
becomes GC III / 9.
On the date of the outbreak
of the German attack of May 10, 1940, the GC III / 9 is attached
to the Air Forces Reserved ZOAA (Zone d'Aériennes Alpes)
The Group was first dissolved
on July 6, 1940, then recreated in August 1940 with GC III/1 and
GC I/6 pilots dissolved on August 10, 1940, and some pilots of GC
II/6 and GC II/2 also dissolved. The 2nd Squadron emblem shown above
is in fact that of the 2nd Squadron of GC I/6 of Commander Tricaud.
The latter, former GC I/6 boss and new GC III / 9 Commanding Officer,
will adopt the 1st and 2nd Squadron emblems of his former GC I/6
Group to GC III/9.
The Group is finally dissolved
on December 4, 1942
