Fighter Group GC II/7

3rd Squadron (Ex SPA 78)
4th Squadron (Ex SPA 73)

Historical

The GC II / 7 is formed in October 1932 with the SPA 73 and the SPA 78. Equipped first of Nieuport 629 and Blériot Spad 510, it receives its first modern Morane MS406 fighters from February 1939. Among them, some were financed by a national underwriting and will be given to GC II / 7 in August 1939. They relate to the fuselage, the name of regions of France.

On the date of the outbreak of the German attack of May 10, 1940, the GC II / 7 is attached to the Group No. 24 of the "Reserved Air Forces" of the ZOAS (South Air Operations Area).

The Group will not receive Dewoitine D520 until May 20, 1940. GC II / 7 will be in AFN before the Armistice.

The GC II / 7 will finish the Campaign of France with a score of 29 safe and 17 likely victories, for the loss of 8 pilots and 10 wounded.
