Historical
GC III / 5 was created on
May 15, 1940 by uniting squadrons BR 108 and SPA 97. At the declaration
of hostilities, GC III / 5 occupies the airfield of Bizerte-Sidi
Ahmed (Tunisia) and is equipped with Morane Saulnier 406 and Bleriot-Spad
510.
With the Groups engaged at
the front having priority, GC III / 5 suffers from lack of equipment
and means. The fighting against the Italians from June 12, 1940,
will often be without results: the Moranes are too slow and the
means of communication failing or missing.
At the armistice, the GC
III / 5 was a likely victory against an Italian plane.
GC III / 5 is finally dissolved
on August 1st, 1940.
