Historical
After GC I / 5, GC II / 5
is the second Fighter Group to be converted to Curtiss H75 in March
1939
On the date of the outbreak
of the German attack of May 10, 1940, the GC II / 5 is attached
to the Group No. 22 of the "Air Forces Reserves" of the
ZOAE (East Air Operations Area).
The GC II / 5 retreats to
AFN from June 18, 1940. It will have carried out the entire campaign
of France on Curtiss H75 and at the the Armistice, the Group presents
a record of 48 Victoires Sûres and 23 Likely, figures lower
than those GC I / 5 for example, also on Curtiss H75, but for the

Adrien LEPS enlisted
voluntarily and was incorporated into the 9th and then the
1st regiment of hussars in 1915. Seriously wounded on 9th
July 1915, he asked to join the Air Force and was commissioned
as an observer in 1915. Initially a machine-gunner with the
N 67, he was sent to the Ambérieux school, and qualified
as a pilot in August 1916 and posted to the N 23, then the
N 21. He flew the SPAD 2 and ended the war with 12 victories.
He was recalled to active service in 1924 and posted to the
38th RA. Between the wars, he worked for the Carburateurs
Solex company. He was recalled in August 1939 and was
posted first to the staff of the Etampes base, then to the
GC II/5. He then joined the staff of General PINSARD's Groupement
de Chasse 21. On 6 June 1940, when his airfield was bombed
by the Germans, he was seriously wounded, along with General
Pinsard, who had to have a leg amputated.
He retired in 1961. For the record, Adrien LEPS, a great tennis
fan, was a linesman until he was... 84 years old!
