Fighter Group GC I/6

1st Squadron (Ex SPA 96)
2nd Squadron (Ex SPA 12)

Historical

Created in October 1934, GC I / 6 receives its Moranes MS406 at the end of 1938.

The GC I / 6, assigned to the Wing of March, is transferred to AFN March 3, 1938. He returned to France on December 15, 1939, and joined the airfield of Marignane. The Group has left its "Old" Morane in AFN, it receives new aircrafts. After a few weeks of training, he joined the theater of operations in Chissey in the jura.

On the date of the outbreak of the German attack of May 10, 1940, the GC I / 6 is attached to the Air Forces Reservatives of the ZOAA (Zone d'Aériennes Alpes)

On June 5, 1940, the organization of GC I / 6 is reviewed: all Czech pilots are gathered in the 2nd Squadron under the command of Captain KULHANEK. The French pilots are thus all at the 1st Squadron commanded by second lieutenant RAPHENNE.

The GC I / 6 will finish the Campaign of France with a score of 14 Victories sure and 12 likely. But this at the cost of a very heavy balance sheet with the loss of 12 pilots and 16 wounded.

After the Armistice, the Group was dissolved on August 15, 1940.
