Surveillance Squadron 2S-4

Historical

On August 31, 1939, part of Lanveoc-Poulmic's training section was transformed into 2S-4 Exploration Squadron. It is first equipped with Gourdou-Leseurre GL812, CAMS 37-11 and a Loire 130. The unit takes up residence on the base of Lorient, from where it carries out missions of surveillance and escort of convoys.

On October 6th, it was decided to turn the 2S-4 Squadron into a land unit. It is therefore logically that it exchanges its CAMS 37-11 by Levasseur PL10 and PL101 in terrestrial version. On October 10, the unit is transferred to La Baule-Escoublac from where it will continue its missions. During the winter, weather conditions are particularly bad and crews do not fly much.

Pushed back by the German advance, the squadron rejoins Rochefort, then Agen, Marignane and finally Fare Les Oliviers near Berre-L'étang just before the Armisitice.

The squadron will pay a heavy tribe in losses by accident because 3 men are killed and one seriously injured: The multiplication of the types of materials can undoubtedly partly explain this state of fact
