Surveillance Squadron 2S-1

Historical

The unit, whose origin dates back to 1922, knows several successive designations: B201, 3R-1, 2R-1, and finally 2S-1 in April 1928. The squadron is equipped with CAMS-55 and Gourdou-Leseurre GL810 and derivatives. The aircrafts are grouped by type, in two separate sections.

Based in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, the unit will carry out, after the outbreak of the conflict, anti-submarine control missions off Brest and Lorient. At the end of 1939, she joined the Trojan base for the surveillance of the port of Bordeaux.

At the end of December 1939, the unit will exchange its Gourdou-Leseurre against the CAMS 55 of Escadrille 1S-2. Pushed back by the German advance, Escadrille 2S-1 retreats to Hourtin, where the aircraft will be abandoned and the presonnel dispersed.
