Surveillance Squadron 8S-2


Historical

Squadron 8S-2 was created in January 1936 in Martinique, Fort de France. First called 5S-2, it will take its final designation of 8S-2 October 17, 1939. At the outbreak of the conflict, army Gourdou-Les Bains GL-812, the unit carries out missions of escort of Ships and wrestling anti-submarine. The squadron is very active and the flights are numerous. Following two accidents, the squadron will have only two aircraft, before being re-equipped in Loire 130 Colonial, from February 1940. The flights resume with this new aircraft until the Armistice

After the Armistice, the 8S-2 Squadron is renamed 17S. It will join, in 1943, the Forces Fraçaises Libres under a new name of "17S" and will finally be dissolved in July 1944.
