Exploration Squadron E-7

Historical

The unit was born in 1931 under the name 4-E1. She will not take her E-7 designation until August 1935. In September 1939, the Squadron based in Karouba, is under the command of Lieutenant LACOSTE. The unit has been equipped with LOIRE 70, old-fashioned aircraft with dubious reliability. These caused a lot of maintenance problems ...

The Squadron will carry out until June 1940, missions of explorations and surveillance in the Mediterranean. But on June 11, 1940, Italy declared war on France, and the next day, Italian SM79 bombers bombed the base of Karouba. 4 of the 6 Loire 70 are destroyed, and another seriously damaged ...

Crews, without machines, will be made available to GB II / 25 based in Bougie. There, on Leo H257-Bis loaned by the Air Force, they will carry out some missions of surveillance. Renamed 7E, the unit will finally be dissolved August 31, 1940
