Historical
Squadron 11-E was created
on the Etang de Berre on September 3rd, 1939 under the command of
the Lieutenant NORMAND. The unit is equipped with LeO H470, requisitioned
and remilitarized civil aircraft. Each aircraft, on a rotational
basis, will return to the factory to receive military equipment:
bomb throwers, machine guns, ...
Until January 1940, Squadron
11-E completed his training from the pond of Berre, before joining,
on January 15, the pond of Biscarosse. The unit, from this base,
carries out long missions of surveillance, exploration and convoy
escorts off the Golf de Gascogne, and in the north of Spain.
The unit returns to the pond
of Berre end of April before leaving for the base of Karouba, in
Tunisia, and resumes its missions of surveillance. After the entry
into the war of the Italians, the crews have some contacts with
the enemy: submarine attack or exchange of fire with Italian aircraft.
