Exploration Squadron E-2

Historical

The unit was born in 1931 under the name 1-E1. She will not take her designation E-2 until August 1935. In November of the same year, the squadron E4, newly created (April 1935) is finally integrated into the Squadron E2, bringing with her, her Breguet Bizerte.

In August 1939, the Squadron under the command of Lieutenant DUVAL is based in Cherbourg. As the conflict approaches, the squadron is moved to Karouba, Tunisia. The transfer of aircraft ends around September 14, just when the unit receives the order to join the base of Lanvéoc-Poulmic. From this base, will be carried out, as for all the units, long missions of exploration and escort of convoy, without meeting the enemy. To note the March 4, 1940, the attack of a submarine, without success.

Before the German advance, the unit left on June 18, 1940 Lanvéoc-Poulmic to join first Etang de Berre then Arzew, Algeria, shortly before the Armistice.
