Historical
The unit was born in 1931
under the name 3-E3. She will not take her E-5 designation until
August 1935. At the outbreak of the conflict, the Escadrille E-5
is based on the pond of Berre. Equipped with Breguet Bizerte, it
is commanded by Lieutenant Commander BELLANDO.
Like other exploration squadrons,
the E-5 performs long surveillance or convoy escort missions. Here
again, the great autonomy and reliability of Breguet Bizerte will
be much appreciated.
The staff of Naval Aviation
decided to transfer the unit to Port Liautey to strengthen the French
presence in Morocco. The first Breguet Bizerte land in Port-Liautey
on November 30th. From this new base, Squadron E-5 will resume its
missions until the Armistice.
The unit will be dissolved
on August 30, 1940.
