GC II/5
Adrien LEPS enlisted voluntarily and was incorporated into the 9th and then the 1st regiment of hussars in 1915. Seriously wounded on 9th July 1915, he asked to join the Air Force and was commissioned as an observer in 1915. Initially a machine-gunner with the N 67, he was sent to the Ambérieux school, and qualified as a pilot in August 1916 and posted to the N 23, then the N 21. He flew the SPAD 2 and ended the war with 12 victories. He was recalled to active service in 1924 and posted to the 38th RA. Between the wars, he worked for the ‘Carburateurs Solex’ company. He was recalled in August 1939 and was posted first to the staff of the Etampes base, then to the GC II/5. He then joined the staff of General PINSARD's Groupement de Chasse 21. On 6 June 1940, when his airfield was bombed by the Germans, he was seriously wounded, along with General Pinsard, who had to have a leg amputated.
He retired in 1961. For the record, Adrien LEPS, a great tennis fan, was a linesman until he was... 84 years old!
Born 27 September 1893 in Angers (49 - Maine et Loire).
Died in Paris (75) on 18 December 1983.
