Jean ACCART joined the
French Navy in April 1932. He joined the navy and obtained
his pilot's licence in 1933. He was posted to the 1st squadron
of the 5th fighter squadron in 1936 before being appointed
commander of SPA 67 in 1938 (1st squadron of GC I/5). During
the French Campaign, he was seriously wounded in aerial combat
on 1 June 1940, and after his convalescence he went on to
recreate the advanced fighter section of the Ecole de l'Air,
based at Salon. In November 1942, he was placed on armistice
leave and managed to leave France for AFN via Spain. He was
given command of the Berry fighter group, known
as 345 Squadron in the RAF. After completing a training period
at the Command and General Staff School in the USA, he was
assigned to the General Staff's Studies and Plans Office and
to the Air Force Inspectorate.
In 1946, he was a fighter
instructor at the Centre d'Enseignement Supérieur Aérien
before being appointed Chief of Staff at the Air Force Headquarters
in December 1946. He became deputy director of the Bretigny
test centre, then fighter inspector in 1952. In September
1952, he took command of the Reims air base, before becoming
2nd Deputy Chief of Staff of the French Air Force in September
1955. He was then assigned to the General Chief of Staff of
the French Air Force and as such was the national air defence
representative at SHAPE. He became deputy to the Air Force
General Major in February 1959, then took command of the 1st
CATAC and the FAFA in November 1960. He was appointed a member
of the Conseil Supérieur de l'Air from 1962 to 1965,
and Inspector of Armament Programmes and Manufacturing in
1963. Jean ACCART retired from active service in 1965.

Jacques ALLEZ
enlisted in the 3rd Cuirassiers Regiment in 1914, then was seconded
to the Avord aviation camp, then to Pau in 1915 and 1916. He
was posted to squadron 65 in 1917. Appointed instructor in 1917,
he was transferred to GC 12 in 1918. He was demobilised in 1919.
In 1939, he was recalled to the I/4 fighter group and became
a liaison officer with the British army in 1940. Returning to
civilian life, he became President of the Aéro-club de
France from 1948 to 1968, then President of the Fédération
aéronautique internationale. |

Georges AMARGER
joined the French Air Force in 1927 as a mechanic. He joined
the Nimes school before being posted to Morocco. He received
his pilot's licence at Istres in 1931 and was posted to the
Reims base in 1936, then to the GAR in Algiers in 1938. He joined
the GC I/7 fighter group in Levant in 1940.
After the Armistice, back in France, he escaped to Spain, but
was taken prisoner by the Spanish and interned at the Miranda
camp. He joined the GC II/7 in Morocco in May 1943.
After the war, he was posted to Tunisia in 1947, then to Indochina
from April 1951 to November 1952. He was appointed Commander
of the Air Force in Algeria from 1953 to 1961, then posted to
the Cognac base in 1961. Georges AMARGER retired in 1965. |

Maurice AVON,
a former student at the Ecole Normale d'Enseignants in Avignon,
discovered Popular Aviation before joining the Advanced Military
Training School. He asked to go into aviation and obtained a
flying scholarship. In 1938, he joined the Bourges school and
learned to fly the Hanriot. He was awarded a military pilot's
licence and was incorporated at Istres. He was also trained
as an observer at Avord.
He was posted to Oran, then to Casablanca with the GG III/4
in 1940. Demobilised after the Armistice, he was recalled in
1943 and joined the FAFL. He took part in the landings with
squadron 329.
He was posted to the GC Provence in 1947 in AFN,
and was appointed commander of the GC I/2 Cigognes
in 1948, before being appointed second-in-command of the 7th
Fighter Wing in 1953. In 1956, he became second-in-command of
the Meknès training base, then trainee at the ESGA (Ecole
Supérieure de Guerre Aérienne) in 1958. He was
then appointed deputy operational commander of the 5eme RA in
Algiers, then commander of the 9th air brigade and commander
of the Metz air base in 1960. In 1963, he was assigned to the
3rd Bureau of the Air Force General Staff, and in 1965 became
Commander of the southern air defence zone at Aix-les-Milles.
He was appointed head of the military air traffic service and
then director of air traffic in 1968. Maurice AVON, Air Division
General, was put on aircrew leave in 1972 |
