He will die by accident in November 1944 when the B24 which
brings him back from Algiers towards Le Bourget, crashes in
the forest of Saint-Prix (Saône et Loire) |

Robert Starké
was born on 13 June 1915 in Woerth, Bas-Rhin. He joined the
Romilly air base as a student pilot on 24 August 1935. After
obtaining his wings, he joined the 1st Fighter Squadron based
at Le Bourget on 15 May 1936, then at Villacoublay and finally
at Etampes on 20 October of the same year.
On 24 August 1938, after signing a new contract, Sergeant Starké
was posted to the 2nd Escadrille of GC I/1. During the "Drôle
de Guerre", Sergeant Starké was promoted to the
rank of Sergeant-Chef.
On 20 June 1940, while flying over a HEINKEL HE111 that had
been destroyed on the ground, Sergeant STARKE collided with
another French pilot of the GCI/8, Sub-Lieutenant PORODO. Miraculously,
PORODO escaped unhurt, but Sergeant SARKE was found burnt to
a crisp in his aircraft. |

in 1930. He qualified as a Military Pilot and was posted to
the 2nd Fighter Regiment in Strasbourg, then to the Chartres

On mobilisation, he was
posted to the GC I/2 and was placed on Armistice leave in
June 1940. He was posted to general supplies at Le Mans.
In 1942, he was posted
to Vichy, to the Secretary of State for Aviation, and to the
Service des Oeuvres Sociales de l'Air based in Vichy.
In 1946, he was posted
to the GAL in Germany. He was placed on active personnel leave
in 1947.
Returning to civilian
life, he was an executive pilot with Motostandard.

factory in Chatellerault, flying many routes between Chatellerault
and Bordeaux. With this solid experience, he joined the GC I/1
on 20 April 1940. He was killed in air combat on 03 June 1940. |
