Georges - Julien |
Captain
|
|
Georges
GARDE joined the French Air Force in August 1921 and obtained
his pilot's licence in April 1922. From 1926 to 1932, he was
posted to French West Africa and took part in local conflicts
against the "Rebels" in Mauritania and then in the
High Atlas.
In 1932, he was posted to the 1st Fighter Wing based at Villacoublay.
From 1933 to 1934, he took part in the Croisière Noire,
a raid from North Africa to Sub-Saharan Africa aboard 28 Potez
25 TOEs. He then returned to the 1st Fighter Wing and was appointed
Captain, before taking command of the 2nd Squadron.
Georges GARDE was placed on Armistice leave in 1943 and joined
the Resistance. He managed to leave France for Algiers. He was
commander of the Meknés fighter training centre.
After the war, Georges GARDE was for a time Head of the Air
Force Information Service before taking command of the 60th
Transport Wing at Villacoublay. He was promoted to Air Brigadier
General in 1954. |
