GC

Michel
DETROYAT joined the Air Force in Istres in 1923. He very quickly
showed great qualities as a pilot and excelled in acrobatics.
He left the army in 1927 to become a test pilot with Morane-Saulnier.
He took part in a number of air races and meetings, where he
competed against Marcel DORET, another highly talented pilot.
Michel DETROYAT became Hélène BOUCHER's acrobatics
instructor in 1933 and in April 1938 became an advisor to the
French Air Force.
He joined the GC I/1 on 7 September 1939 before joining the
STAé on 31 October 1939. Demobilised in July 1940, he
remained close to the Vichy government and provided technical
support to the occupying forces, leading to his arrest in October
1944 at the time of the liberation. He was released in November
1945 and sentenced in January 1946 to national degradation and
a 20-year residence ban. He returned to France in 1951 and resumed
his career as a pilot. He died in 1956 of a cerebral embolism. |
