Historical
The Patrol of Toulouse
was set up on May 11, 1940 to protect the Dewoitine factory in
Blagnac. The pilots will be Polish and the equipment, Dewoitine
D520 of course ... But those arriving only a few days later, it
is venerable D501 that will ensure the junction. The four Polish
pilots are coming from the DIAP. As for most Patrols, Lieutenant
SALKIEWICZ, commander of the patrol will face the heavy French
administrative to get to equip his unit. In addition, only Lieutenant
KOLSIN speaks French ...
The Patrol is on alert
from 3am to 9pm and the pilots have little time to rest. On the
30th of May, Lieutenant SALKIEWICZ was killed during a training
session and Sub-Lieutenant SZEMJL, from Toulouse, replaced him.
He will receive, on June 9, the reinforcement of 3 pilots coming
from the Patrol of Salon. In addition 3 Morane MS406 will arrive
and will be used for training pilots.
The four departures on
alerts will not allow the Patrol to meet the enemy, and June 21,
on the order of the French Command, 3 pilots will join Algiers
with their Dewoitine 520, while the rest of the staff will join
England by boat.
