BRUYNEEL joined the 34th Aviation Regiment in 1930. From 1932
to 1936, he did voluntary service before being called up in
1939. He was assigned to the GR I/36 reconnaissance group, with
which he took part in the French campaign. He moved to AFN and
joined the FFL in Tunisia on 4 June 1943.
He was posted to the Picardie group in Damascus
and joined the FFL in Great Britain with the Lorraine
group in 1944, then with the GT III/15 Maine transport
group.
André BRUYNEEL was demobilised in 1946. He served several
periods in reserve until 1966. |

Captain Marcel CHASTANET
was an Artillery Captain.
On 22nd April 1934, he did a training course at the Avord
School to become an Aircraft Observer.
On 1 October 1934, he was seconded for a year to the 38th
Air Wing before joining the No 101 Air Battalion on 2 September
1939. He was assigned to the air force section of the 1st
Land Army and was seconded to GR I/36. Badge number: 5959
On 6 June 1940, despite
fighter protection, Potez 63-11 no. 161 was shot down in flames
by a group of 30 Me109s. The crew was killed.
Captain CHASTANET was
buried near the aircraft with Sergeant JOST. He was moved
to Cavillon military cemetery, and his ashes were transferred
after the war to Saint Salvadour cemetery in Corrèze.

Joined the Air Force in
1926 - Replaced his classmate, Cdt Félix CROS, at the
head of the Group on 1 May 1940.
After the war, in 1954, he was promoted to Major General and
led the Air Force in Indochina and took an active part in
the conflict in Algeria.
A supporter of French Algeria, he was one of the four five-star
generals who attempted a putsch in Algiers from 22 to 25 April
1961.
Arrested after the failed putsch, he was sentenced to death
in the Santé prison. His sentence was eventually changed
to life imprisonment. He was finally released from prison
in Tulle in December 1967 and amnestied in 1968.

Jacques LE GROIGNEC
joined the Ecole de l'Air in 1937, then the Avord school.
He was posted to GAO 522 at Romilly sur Seine and then to
the GR I/36 reconnaissance group, with which he took part
in the French campaign. On 21 June 1940, he attempted to cross
the Mediterranean aboard Potez 63-11 No. 501, but suffered
an oil leak and had to land in Majorca, Spain. The crew was
taken prisoner and the aircraft was refurbished under Spanish
colours. Back in France, he was assigned to the Châteauroux
storage base and volunteered for Syria. He left for the Levant
to Aleppo in 1941, then to Morocco for further flying training.
He then joined the FAFL and was posted to the I/3 fighter
group at Ajaccio, where he took charge of a squadron. He took
part in operations over Italy, France and Germany in 1944-45.
In 1947, he left for Indochina
as second-in-command of the Corse fighter group. On his return
to Paris, he was posted to the 3rd office of the Air Force
General Staff. He then joined the Coq gaulois fighter squadron
in Dijon in 1947 and the Cigogne fighter group in 1950. He
was appointed second-in-command of the 4th Fighter Wing at
Friedrieschafen, then posted to the 11th Wing, still in Germany
at Lahr. On his return to France, he attended the ESGA (Ecole
Supérieure de Guerre Aérienne) before being
posted to the personnel department of the French Air Force
in 1954. He was seconded to Cyprus in 1956, then posted again
to Germany to the 1st CATAC (Tactical Air Command) in 1957.
He was appointed Commander of the Tactical Air Forces in 1959,
then Commander of the Northern Air Defence Zone in 1963. He
was appointed Deputy Commander of the Taverny Air Defence
in 1964. He became Director of Studies at the Centre des Hautes
Etudes Militaires in 1967, then Commander of the Air Defence.
Member of the Conseil Supérieur de l'Armée de
l'Air in 1970, he ended his career with the rank of Air Brigadier
General.

Pierre Mariage voluntarily
enlisted in the artillery in August 1914. He was qualified
as an aircraft observer in February 1917 and was seconded
to the air force in March.
Demobilised in 1919, he was transferred to the reserves. He
was recalled to active service in 1939 and was first posted
to GAO 545 in August 1939, then to the 1/36 reconnaissance
group of the 11th land army. He took part in the French campaign
and became commander of GAO III/551 in May 1940.
Demobilised in August 1940, he joined the Free French Forces
in 1942. Pierre Mariage served periods in the reserves after
the war and left the reserve army with the rank of Colonel.

2nd Class, volunteered on 5th July 1915, and fought as a Gunner
during the first conflict, which he finished with the rank
of Lieutenant.
He was admitted to the
Ecole Polytechnique in September 1921.
He joined the Air Force
in June 2023 and was posted to GR I/36 in February 1939.
On 19 May 1940, Potez
63-11 n° 580 was shot down by Me109s. Sergeant CAZENAVE
was taken prisoner. Captain PERROTE was seriously wounded
in the leg and taken prisoner. He had to be amputated during
his captivity.
