Historical
The Patrol of Tours is
created on May 11, 1940 to ensure the protection of the CIR (Reconnaissance
Training Center). Bloch MB152 from the warehouse at the base must
constitute the endowment. Most of them will come from Chateauroux
EAA 301. The pilots, meanwhile, come mainly from the CIR, under
the command of Commander CLAVEL.
A device of four Patrols
is set up, with a rotation ensuring permanently two Patrols ready
to take off on alert. Six Polish pilots, coming from the Patrol
of Angers come to reinforce the manpower: these, come to recover
in Tours devices for the Patrouille d'Angers will never, in fact,
join their unit.
The first engagement is
June 6, 1940: four pilots on alert, attack a formation of German
bombers and manage to shoot down two DO17Z. Other takeoffs on
alert will take place, but without result. On June 14, the only
Potez 630 Patrol took off to recognize the advance of the Germans
announced near Chartres: the aircraft, probably shot by the Flak,
will not return to the base. That same day, the patrol on alert
takes off to intercept a large formation of bombers who came to
attack the ground. The commitment will result in the loss of a
Bloch MB151, another damaged irreparably and a driver seriously
injured ...
On June 15, 3 Polish pilots
leave the Patrol to finally reach Angers. A last victory will
be obtained on June 16 on a JU88 and the next day, the Patrol
joined Bordeaux to form the 1st Squadron of GC I / 55.
