The Romorantin Patrol is
created on May 12, 1940 to protect the EAA304.Sa staffing consists
of Monrane MS406 borrowed from the Warehouse. This Patrol belongs
to Patrol Group No. 2, which also includes the Chateauroux Patrol
and the Avord Patrol. On May 17th, the Polish pilots assigned
to the unit joined the airfield.
As in all Defense Patrols,
Captain OPULSKI, commanding the unit, faces a significant lack
of equipment. In addition to the ammunition in very insufficient
quantities, the pilots will never perceive the masks inhalers
...
There is very little archival
material on this unit: the Polish documents attribute 5 victories
to the pilots of this unit, whereas the French command only homologates
2: victories all obtained during a German raid on the ground of
Romorantin, June 5, 1940. Also note a mistake on Loiré-nieuport
LN411 of the Navy: it was shot down by mistake on June 4, his
pilot managing to parachute without damage.
After completing about
75 missions, the Polish pilots retreat to Bordeaux on June 18,
1940
