Historical

Originally, the group was an Observation Unit, GO I / 39. It was converted to GB I / 39 on January 1, 1938.

Equipped in its early Bloch MB 200, it received Gleen-Martin 167F in May 1940. The GB I / 39 is stationed in Lebanon, attached to the Air Forces of Mediterranean Orient.

It will be dissolved on August 1, 1941 after fighting against the Allied Forces.

In 1937, Guy ARCAM signed a voluntary enlistment for 4 years and joined the Rochefort Air force apprentice mechanics school. in Rochefort. Volunteering for a posting to the TOE (External operating territories), he joined the GB I/39 based in Lebanon.
After the Armistice, keen to continue fighting, he managed to reach Egypt and enlisted in the Royal Air Force in September 1940. He then joined the Free French Forces in October 1940 and joined the EB1 Bombardment Squadron, which later became the Lorraine Group.
He was killed on 9 May 1942 during a flight from Cairo to Beirut aboard Caudron SIMOUN n°595: the wreckage of the aircraft, reported missing at sea, was found a few days later, but there was no trace of the crew...
