Bomber Squadrons B-2

Historical

At mobilization, Escadrille B-2, commanded by Lieutenant FOURNIER, is based in Berre l'Etang. The equipment of this unit of the flotilla F1B, is composed of Lioré & Olivier LeO H257 Bis. Unfortunately, the War starts badly: a Leo H257 Bis crashes on landing on September 8, 1939. Three crew members are killed and two others are injured.

During the Funny War, the crews essentially fly to complete their training in navigation or bombing. On December 2, the B-2 squadron, which was reinforced with aircraft taken from B-3 Squadron, was attached to the Admiral commanding the Western Maritime Forces, and joined, as a result, the base of Lanvéoc-Poulmic. The surveillance missions and the patrols succeed each other until May 10, 1940. After the outbreak of the German attack, the Squadron carries out more offensive missions including an attack, without losses, the bridges of the Canal de la Somme at night. from June 10 to 11, 1940.

Driven by the advance of the German troops, the B-2 Escadrille is folded towards the South, and joined the base of the Etang de Berre before crossing the Mediterranean and landing, on June 21, 1940, at Bougie in Algeria. She will finally join the Khéreddine field in Tunisia on June 24, 1940.
