Bomber Squadrons B-3

Historical

The unit, whose origin dates back to 1923, knows several successive designations: B302, 5B-2, 3B-2, and finally B-3 on October 1, 1938. It will be equipped with Leo 258, then Leo H257 bis. At the outbreak of the conflict, the B-1 Squadron is stationed on the base of Berre l'Etang, under the command of Lieutenant de Vaisseau ECHINARD. During the first months of the war, the B-3 Squadron completed its training and carried out some coastal surveillance missions over the Mediterranean, and more particularly the Marseille area from January 1940. The unit will be dissolved, in April 1940 ... before being reborn in May 1940, with the same denomination, and equipped this time with Gleen-Martin 167F. Lieutenant JALABERT takes command of the new unit. The staff are gathered in Médiouna, Algeria, to collect their new Aircraft.

On June 10, the B-3, thus reformed, joined Rochefort on June 11, after making a stop in Oran and Marignane. But the German advance will not allow 'Escadrille to finish his equipment and the B-3 leaves Rochefort June 20 for Saint-Raphael then Morocco through Algeria.
