ROQUES
Jacques - Rafael |
Captain
|
|
Jacques
ROQUES, an aviation enthusiast, qualified as a pilot in September
1915. A Swiss national, he joined the French Air Force at the
age of 18 via the Légion Etrangère. He fought
with the 48th Fighter Squadron from January 1917 and was credited
with 5 sure and 3 probable victories. Jacques ROQUES, whose
father was Swiss and whose mother was Venezuelan, became a naturalised
French citizen in 1919.
On mobilisation, he rejoined his former SPA 48 squadron at GC
I/1 but took part in only one combat and did not fly much: Jacques
ROQUES was 42 years old at the time...: As Deputy Group Leader
of GC I/1, he briefly took command of the Group in April 1940.
He was demobilised on 30 July 1940 and joined the French Forces
of the Interior.
After the war, he took over the running of his father's pharmaceutical
company. |
