Georges
GARDE joined the French Air Force in August 1921 and obtained
his pilot's licence in April 1922. From 1926 to 1932, he was
posted to French West Africa and took part in local conflicts
against the "Rebels" in Mauritania and then in the
High Atlas.
In 1932, he was posted to the 1st Fighter Wing based at Villacoublay.
From 1933 to 1934, he took part in the Croisière Noire,
a raid from North Africa to Sub-Saharan Africa aboard 28 Potez
25 TOEs. He then returned to the 1st Fighter Wing and was appointed
Captain, before taking command of the 2nd Squadron.
Georges GARDE was placed on Armistice leave in 1943 and joined
the Resistance. He managed to leave France for Algiers. He was
commander of the Meknés fighter training centre.
After the war, Georges GARDE was for a time Head of the Air
Force Information Service before taking command of the 60th
Transport Wing at Villacoublay. He was promoted to Air Brigadier
General in 1954. |

Paul GIGNOUX
was called up in 1914 and joined the infantry. He joined the
air force and qualified as a pilot in 1915. He was assigned
to the MF 20 squadron, then the VB 101 and V 137. After the
Armistice of 1918, he was placed on leave and transferred to
the reserves. He served periods from 1920 to 1939. In November
1939, he was mobilised again and assigned to the night fighter
group ECN IV/13. He joined the Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur
from 1941 to 1943. |

Jean GISCLON did his
military service in the French Air Force in 1933-1934. He
re-enlisted and was posted to the Reims base in 1937. He joined
the ECMJ I/16 squadron in 1940, then the Groupe II/5.
He withdrew to AFN with his Group and joined the Free French
Air Force after the Allied landings in AFN. He was posted
to the La Fayette group in 1943-44 and fought
on P47s, notably during the Italian Campaign.
In 1945, he was posted to the training base at Tours and then
joined the 4th Air Liaison Wing at Villacouy.
at Villacoublay. He was appointed second-in-command of the
Air Force Reserve Training Centre.
In 1960, back in civilian life, he became a journalist and
writer. He published a number of books:

Group on 7 August 1939. Wounded in air combat on 24 May 1940,
he had to parachute. Caught by a spy from the 5th Column, he
was shot at while still attached to his parachute. A car finally
took him to a hospital, but it took a wrong turn and had to
turn back to avoid going back to the front. During the manoeuvre,
the car hit a lorry and Sergeant GLOANEC was wounded again....
He spent eight days in hospital. |

Auguste GOUPY
joined the École de Salon in 1937 and did a training
period at Cazaux in 1938. He was posted to Étampes in
1939, then to the GC I/5 fighter group on 8 March 1940, where
he was seriously wounded in air combat on 10 May 1940.
After the Armistice, he rejoined his unit in Rabat in October
1940. He took part in operations after the Provence landings
and became Commander of the GC I/4 fighter group in 1945, then
was posted to the 3rd fighter squadron before being sent to
Indochina from September 1948 to November 1949. He was posted
to Reims, and did training at Avord and Nellis in the USA. He
joined the staff of the Allied Air Forces Southern Europe Command
in Florence in 1951. He became commander of the Sidi-Ahmed air
base (Algeria) in 1953, then was posted to the EMGDN (national
defence general staff) in 1959 before being appointed air attaché
to the French embassy in Rome in 1961. He was promoted to commander
of the northern defence air zone in Romilly in 1964, then deputy
head of the cabinet of the Minister of the Armed Forces in 1966
and finally deputy to the general commanding the 2nd air region.
Auguste GOUPY was placed on leave from the Air Force in 1970
with the rank of Air Brigadier General. |
