HYVERNAULT
Pierre - René |
Captain
|
|
Pierre HYVERNAULT passed
the entrance exam to the Saint-Cyr School with flying colours,
and joined the French Air Force in September 1928 for 8 years.
At the end of the final examinations, with a very honourable
22nd place out of 336 candidates, he was accepted at the Ecole
Militaire Aéronautique de Versailles, which he entered
in October 1930. He obtained his military pilot's licence
in December 1931. He was posted to the 3rd Fighter Aviation
Regiment based at Chateauroux.
In January 1934, he was posted to headquarters, but his qualities
as a leader of men and organiser quickly led Pierre Hyvernault
to return to the unit and he took over the command of the
2nd Squadron of the 2nd EALD (Escadrille Aérienne Légère
de Défense). In November 1938, he was posted to the
Inspection Générale de l'Aviation de Chasse,
but in May 1939, faced with the increasingly worrying situation
in Europe, he joined the 1st Air Force and was posted to the
GC I/2 in March 1940.
Captain Pierre Hyvernault
was killed in aerial combat on 11 May 1940.
