Historical
The unit is created in June
1933 under the name 4T1. It will take its final name, T1, on October
1, 1938. At the declaration of the conflict, the squadron, equipped
with Latécoère 298, is based in Berre. The crews continue
their training until January 1940, before joining Cherbourg on February
1, 1940 to be under the authority of Admiral North.
On March 1st, the T1 Squadron
is attached to the 5th Torpedo Flotilla F5T. Patrol missions at
sea are then set up from the base of Boulogne. These missions will
continue until April 1940, when the unit receives the order to join
Karouba, Tunisia to be attached to the 4th Maritime Region. The
T1 Squadron will perform some missions against the Italians, recently
returned to war, but without meeting the enemy directly.
