Historical
The T-4 Squadron is created
on January 15, 1940 under the command of Lieutenant Camard. Based
on the pond of Berre, it is equipped with Latécoère
298.
Like many units, the first
months of the war are devoted to training. The aircraft of the unit
are nevertheless equipped with two-blade wooden propellers with
fixed pitch, usually used for transfers .... It is only from April
that the Latécoère 298 of the Squadron will be equipped
with Ratier propeller with variable pitch. In May 1940, declared
operational, the squadron T4 is attached to the F5T flotilla. After
the German attack of May 10th, 1940, the T-4 carries out missions
of surveillance over the mediterranean, until the entry to the war
of Italy.
An attack will be conducted
on the night of June 17 to 18, 1940 against Italian targets. The
crews will join their base without losses. This will be the only
mission against the Italian forces before the Armistice.
The T-4 squadron will be
renamed 4T from August 1st, 1940.
