Fighter Squadrons AC-2

Historical

The squadron AC-2 is created on October 1st, 1938. It is attached to Flotille F1-A, ex Flotille of Béarn. Based in Hyères at the declaration of war, she is commanded by Lieutenant FOLLIOT. She is still equipped with old Dewoitine D373 and D376. But following accidents, this type of aircraft is temporarily banned from flying in December 1939. The squadron therefore receives from February 1940, new aircraft, Potez 631 ceded by GC I / 8. And on March 6th, the Escadrille thus "modernized" is grouped with the AC-1 Escadrille to form F1C, 1st Fmotille de Chasse.

On May 13, the AC-2 receives, as reinforcement, 6 Bloch MB151. But during the May fighting, the AC-2 will suffer heavy losses and a new contingent of pilots reinforces the Squadron. On June 18th, facing the German advance, the unit left querqueville to fall back on Rochefort, where it will begin to receive Dewoitine D520. Like the AC1, the sister unit, the AC-2 is first grouped on Hyères before being transferred to sidi-Ahmed, in Tunisia
