From 1943 to 1945, Michel CHALARD took part in the Italian Campaign. He left the French Air Force in 1952 with the rank of Captain.
He then became a test pilot at SNCAN (the future "Nord Aviation") and took part in the testing of the Nord 1500 "Griffon" and Nord 1405 "Gerfaut".
He was killed on 26 April 1957 at the controls of a Nord 2501 "Nordatlas": he had accumulated more than 7,000 flying hours.
