Air Observation Group GAO 505


Historical

Created as GAR 505 (Groupe Autonome de Reconnaissance) on the Saran airfield, near Orléans-Bricy in January 1937, it became GAO 505 on 2 September 1938.

On May 10, 1940, the GA0 505 is attached to the 1st Army of the 1st Air Division of the ZOAN (North Air Operations Area).

Bernard PETITJEAN de MARCILLY is a former student of the Saint-Cyr Military School. Initially an infantry officer, he joined the Air Force in 1928. He retired from active service in the French Air Force in 1946 and retired in 1947.

SIMON Sergeant   He joined the Limoges Storage Base after the Armistice.      
TEISSEIRE Jean - Léon     Jean TEISSEIRE joined the voluntary service in 1936. He took part in the French Campaign as part of GAO 505 and then, after the Armistice, joined the Chantiers de la Jeunesse in 1940 and Jeunesse et Montagne in 1942. He joined the Resistance in 1944 and fought with the Patrie group.
In 1946, he was posted to the Cognac school, then to the 5th office of the Air Force headquarters in 1952. He was posted to Algeria to the mixed helicopter group in 1956. He was assigned to Mr Laforest's cabinet and then, from 1959 to 1963, was appointed aide-de-camp to General de Gaulle before being put on leave from the Air Staff.
Returning to civilian life, he was put in charge of civil aircraft sales (1963) and then of the business aircraft department (since 1969) at Société des avions Marcel Dassault.
