Historical
Following the decision to
add a third Group to existing Fighting Squadrons, GC III / 3 was
established in May 1939 with elements of GC I / 3 and GC II / 3,
and thus does not incorporate any existing tradition.
This group was marked by
a serious accident during a transfer between Dijon and Salon en
Provence mobilization on August 28: 3 pilots crash on the ground
and 3 others are seriously injured. He fights on MORANE MS406 before
being transformed on DEWOITINE D520 at the end of May 1940.
On the date of the outbreak
of the German attack of May 10, 1940, the GC III / 3 belongs to
the Fighting Group No. 21 of the ZOAN (North Air Operations Area).
On June 19, 1940, the GC
III / 3 crosses the Mediterranean with 22 Dewoitine D520. The Group
is finally dissolved on August 25, 1940.
The GC III / 3 will finish
the campaign in France with a record of 33 Victories sure, including
25 on MS406, and 9 probabilities including 8 on MS406. This will
be done at the cost of 12 Kills and 12 Wounded.
