Historical
Created in January 1932,
Squadron 7B-2 became HB-1 on October 1, 1938. At the outbreak of
the conflict, the unit, under the command of Lieutenant Georges
Baron, is based in Arzew, Algeria.
The first months of the war
are devoted to training or surveillance, monotony just broken in
January 1940 by the transfer of the Squadron HB-1 to Karouba in
Tunisia. From this base, surveillance missions resume until the
declaration of war by Italy. On June 19, the unit is moved to Oubeira
and will carry out, on June 23, a mission, without success, against
the Italian fleet: indeed, out of the 10 launched aircraft, only
the Lieutenant BARON will find the Italian fleet and will drop its
bombs without result.
The squadron will finally
be dissolved on August 30, 1940.
