Production

34 Farman NC-470 were built. To this number 1 NC-471 should be added. The other 4 planned NC-471 will not be completed before the Armisitice

To date, out of the 35 aircrafts manufactured ,5 are listed in the list below :

Historical

The Farman F410, was born in 1934 from an initiative of two engineers from the Farman design office. Starting from the observation that there was no seaplane specially dedicated to training, they imagined a simple and easy to fly aircraft. The project was validated by the Farman management and by the Technical Services of the Naval Aeronautics, and the aircraft made its first flight in December 1937. In the meantime, the new aircraft became the Faman NC470 following the creation of the SNAC (Société Nationale de Construction Aeronautiques du Centre by the merger of Farman and Hanriot); the Farman NC470, takes up the characteristics of the Farman brand: it is a twin-engine aircraft with a rectangular fuselage and a high wing. Its construction uses mainly wood: the wing is made of a wooden frame covered with canvas around two metal spars. It was motorized by 2 Gnôme-Rhône 9Akx "Jupiter" star-shaped engines of 480hp. The Farman NC470 carried a defensive armament of 3 Darne 7.5mm machine-guns, and it could, in addition, carry two torpedoes or bombs. The crew was composed of 6 men.
As an anecdote, 10 examples of this seaplane were equipped with a conventional landing gear: the Farman Company had in fact a set of landing gear originally planned for the F-168 Torpedo Bombers which were withdrawn from service. And so it is on wheels that the first flights will be made! The floats were finally installed in the spring of 1938.
The Farman NC470 did not have a derivative version. One can however quote, the Farman NC471 equipped with Gnome-Rhone 9Kgr (500 hp) engines: only the prototype was built and tested. It was later assigned to the 3S-4 Squadron. The Farman NC472 remained in the project state: it was to receive American "Wasp" Pratt & Whitney.S3H-1-G engines.
Naval Aviation, needing aircraft, will finally use the new aircraft for surveillance missions, thus diverting it from its initial function: training. The first examples of Farman NC470 will arrive in active units from August 1939. In November, the Aeronautics placed two orders for the delivery of 10 and 20 aircraft respectively, but the events will not allow to concretize them completely. As often at the time, the production is much delayed, and in December 1939, only 20 machines were in service, 14 of them will be transferred to the Naval Aviation School of Urtin.
At the end of May 1940, 24 Farman NC470 were still present, including the prototype of the NC471. 4 of them will be transferred to Karuba in Tunisia, where they will be used, without much success, for coastal surveillance and against Italian submarines. At the armistice, all Farman NC470s will be donated to the Naval Aviation Schools.
In November 1942, after the invasion of the Free Zone, the Germans seized the 14 surviving machines. They dismantled the floats to replace them by a classic train and used them for the training of their crews. The transformation into a transport plane, for a time imagined, was finally abandoned in front of the state of fatigue of the machines.
It is likely that all the aircraft were quickly scrapped by the Germans.

Versions

NC-470
Series version initially intended for training and offered without an official program by Farman. It will be used as a monitoring aircraft.
NC-471
Version powered by two Gnome-Rhône "Titan" 9 Kgr 500hp, driving three-blade metal propellers. Five copies ordered, but only one built before the Armistice.
