Joseph FRANTZ qualified as a civilian pilot in 1911 and was drafted into the infantry in 1911. He switched to aeronautics and qualified as a military pilot in 1917. He was posted to the VB 24 squadron, then to the Voisin company in Issy-les-Moulineaux in 1915. He was demobilised in 1919 and transferred to the reserves. Recalled in 1939, he was appointed commander of the Compagnie de transport de l'Air 33/106 based in Bordeaux, and in 1940 he suspended his company's activities so as not to be forced to contribute to the occupying forces' war effort. After the Liberation, the business resumed and, in the early 1960s, under his management, his two sons developed a second site next to the Renault factories in Boulogne-Billancourt. Born 7 August 1890 in Beaujeu (69 - Rhône).
