MARKIEWICZ
Antoni - Lucjan |
Staff-Sergeant
|
GC I/145
on June 14, 1940
|
Antoni
MARKIEWICZ joined the Polish Air Force in 1931 and was posted
to the 22 Bomber Eskadra in Krakow. In 1936, he joined an advanced
fighter pilot course. On 1 September 1939, he shot down a Henshel
126, probably the first aircraft of the Second World War to
be killed in aerial combat. On 17th September, Markiewicz flew
to Romania, reached France via Beirut and joined the I/145 Fighter
Group, which had already won 3 victories in Poland. He was posted
on 14 June 1940.
After the armistice, he went to England and was posted to 302
Sqn, where he suffered a serious accident in February 1941 and
never flew again.
Demobilised in November 1945, he remained in Great Britain and
took the name AL MARTIN. |
