JACQUET
Marc |
Lieutenant
|
|
Head
of
2nd office
|
Before
the war, Marc JACQUET was a law student at the universities
of Paris and Kiel. He did his military service in the French
Air Force, with the 54th Air Wing. He attended officer training
courses and graduated as a second lieutenant. He was mobilised
in 1939 and appointed Lieutenant, joining the GB I/38 as head
of the 2nd Bureau. He was demobilised in August 1940, and
became assistant to Lieutenant-Colonel Alfred HEURTAUX, chief
of staff to Air Force General Jean d'Harcourt, the General
Secretary for Family and Youth. Under cover of his position,
Alfred HEURTAUX set up an intelligence network for the Resistance,
and persuaded Marc JACQUET to join him in hiding and become
his deputy. Following Alfred HEURTAUX's arrest in November
1941, Marc JACQUET continued the network's activities, but
hunted down by the Germans, he took refuge in North Africa
and continued his involvement with Henri d'Astier de la VIGERIE.
In North
Africa, he joined the Royalist camp, which aimed to install
the Comte de Paris in power. But after the assassination of
DARLAN, Marc JACQUET was sought after and had to assume an
assumed identity: Marc VAUTHIER. Under this name and with
the rank of Captain, he succeeded in being given command of
a Cavalry Squadron and went ashore with the Allies at Saint-Trpoez
on 15 August 1944. But unmasked by the Military Police, he
was arrested and taken back to Algiers.
After the war, he entered politics, serving as an RPF MP from
1951 to 1955, UNR MP for the 1st constituency of Seine-et-Marne
from 1958 to 1973, and finally as Senator and Chairman of
the RPR Group in the Upper House from 1978 to 1981.

LAVAUX
Lucien - Fernand |
Soldier
|
|
Photographer
|
A
photographer by trade, Lucien LAVAUX decided in 1936 to join
the French Air Force for 3 years with the aim of becoming an
aerial photographer. He was posted to the Duny-Le-Bourget base
before joining the Photo Department of the Air Force General
Staff. But when he heard that an Air Observation Group was being
set up in Limoges, his home town, he was transferred to this
Group. Demobilised in March 1939, he left the GAO 512, but returned
to it 6 months later on mobilisation....
During the French Campaign, he was assigned to the Group's Photo
Department, and after GAO 512 withdrew to the south, he managed
to embark for North Africa in Marseille. Demobilised, he returned
to mainland France in August 1940.
Back in civilian life, he returned to his job as a photographer
and aerial photographer. In particular, he took the 1st aerial
photograph of the martyred village of Oradour sur Vienne, in
Haute-Vienne.
After the war, a talented aerial photographer, he took beautiful
aerial photos of the Limousin region and the city of Limoges
in particular. Lucien LAVAUX is the author of a book retracing
his career as a civilian photographer and his time with the
GAO 512: "PHOTOGRAPHIE SUR TERRE ET DANS LE CIEL"
published by the Conservatoire Aéronautique du Limousin. |
