This
part of the site is dedicated to the French Naval Aviation in 1939-40.
It complements the main site "French
Air Force", which is accessible at any time via
the cockade at the top right of each page. This Weapon, whose action
is less well known, nevertheless deserves a tribute. Its men fought
with merit, often employed in missions for which they were not prepared.
,
This part of the site is composed of 330 pages in French, and is
entirely available in English. Some sections remain to be built,
and will be completed over time and research.
Here is the detail of the contents:
-
Naval Aviation:
The
units of the Naval Aviation are divided administratively by Fleets:
you will find here the detail of this division
44
of the main French aircrafts, land or seaplanes, are described here : characteristics, history, photos, list, aircraft, ...
83
Squadrons are listed here, all specialities included.
To
date, 359 pilots, crew members and mechanics are on my lists.
They are listed alphabetically and by weapon. This list,
still very thin today, will be completed regularly and will
never be, as for the Air Force, exhaustive...
This
section is not yet filled in
-
Citations :
Citations
for Naval Aviation members will be available soon.
-
FORCES INVOLVED :
You
will find here an overview of the Aircraft used by the different
intelligentsia whether they are Axis (Germany and Italy) or Allied
(Great Britain, Belgium, Holland): 40 foreign Aircraft are presented
in these pages.
-
CAMPAIGN OF FRANCE :
This
section is not yet documented.
You will find here, the balance sheet of the victories of the French Naval Aviation. This balance sheet can appear weak compared to that of the Air Force, but it was obtained on outdated equipment and under difficult conditions of engagement, and in numerical inferiority.
I drew up in these pages, a balance sheet of the losses of the French units of the Naval Aeronautics in order to illustrate if need be the heavy toll paid by the French crews.
- MANUFACTURERS:
Here
will be briefly presented, the French manufacturers of Airplanes,
who will never really meet the needs of the French Aviation in full
mutation. These will in fact be destabilized by the multitude of
rearmament plans and recent nationalizations. They will, however,
provide some fine achievements, but the events will unfortunately
prevent them from demonstrating their qualities.
