Latecoere 521 | "Baptized:"
"Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris"- It made its first flight on
June 17, 1935. This large Transatlantic can comfortably transport 72 passengers
on 2 levels; From December 1935, it made flights between Biscarosse and
North America , passing through Dakar, Martinique, .... But it sank at
anchor in Florida during a Hurricane on January 14, 1936. Bailed out,
it will be sent back to France, or after repair, and registered F-NORD,
it will resume his long flights under the colors of Air France. From October
to December 1937, with Henri Guillaumet at the controls, he will break
records, especially in distance with a flight of nearly 5800kms between
Morocco and Brazil, and will perform in August 1938, a Biscarosse-New-York
flight. Requisitioned in 1939, it will be attached to the E6 Squadron and will patrol the North Atlantic. The apparatus will be destroyed during an aerial bombardment on the Etang de Berre in August 1944. " |

Latecoere 522 | Baptized : "Ville de Saint-Pierre" - Version derived from Laté 521. Registered F-ARAP, it made its first flight on April 20, 1939. It was powered by 6 more powerful Hispano-Suiza 12Y37s. Its interior layout is reviewed, and the design of the front of the fuselage is modified. He will only have time to make two translatlantic flights before being requisitioned and joining the E-6 Squadron, too. The Navy will however return it to Air France in February 1940, and it joins Port Liautey on June 24, 1940. In 1942, it manages to force the allied blockade of Djibouti and Dakar to join the pond of Berre where it will be destroyed in 1944 | ||
