Fighter Group GC II/6

3rd Squadron (Ex SPA 26)
4th Squadron (Ex SPA 124)

Historical

In 1934, the 2nd Strandburg Hunting Regiment was disbanded and replaced by 6 Wing, which included the newly created GC II / 6. It takes the traditions of SPA26 and SPA124. First equipped with Nieuport 629, Loiré 46, Potez 630, he saw his Morane MS406 in early 1939. At the mobilization, GC II / 6 was based in Anglure-Vouarces under the command of Commander FONTANET.

On the date of the outbreak of the German attack of May 10, 1940, the GC II / 6 is attached to the Group No. 22 of the "Reserved Air Forces" of the ZOAE (East Air Operations Area).

On May 10, 1940, the unit was sent north to Maubeuge-Elesmes, then to Escarmain. It is on this ground that all Morane MS406 will be destroyed by a bombing on May 16th. The Group is therefore transformed on bloch MB152 to finally collect the highly anticipated Dewoitine D520 on June 24, 1940.

The GC II / 6 will finish the Campaign of France with a record of 20 victories and 10 probable probable, on morane MS406, then on D520.

GC II / 6 will be dissolved on August 20, 1940 to be reformed on January 1, 1942 at Francazal to replace the 1/6 Fighter Squadron in Ouakam (O.A.F). His rebirth began a few months earlier, in September 1941, with A.F.N. gathered in Blida and GC I / 6 staff.
