Casualties by Accidents
189 Pilots and Men of Crews out of 736 were killed by Accident between September 3 and June 24, 1940. The casualtys by accidents represent a non-negligible part of the French casualtys.
This can partly be explained by the large number of missions, that have damaged the machines and crews. But the training of pilots and French Equipages is probably another reahis for this heavy balance sheet, mainly for the Crews of the Bombardment. Indeed, in order to save the machines, pre-war training hours were counted, and the crews were ill prepared for night flights or flying without visibility in mist.
