Biography
Captain Bernard MARECHAL has was experimental in the CEMA. He joins the GC I/1 8 Mars 1940. He obtains 2 victories within this Group, but he is killed in air combat on June 3rd, 1940.
Some feats of arm
On May 13, 1940, Captain MARECHAL took part in a mission led by Captain COUTAUD of GCI/1 to cover the Namur sector. The patrol, attracted by a DCA shot, sees a DORNIER DO17 trying to disappear in the clouds. Attacked by the patrol, he is seriously damaged, but manages to escape. Victory will be counted as probable to the patrol.
On June 3, 1940, the Germans launched a bombing mission on Paris with an important Bombardiers facility protected by many fighters. Captain MARECHAL takes off with a triple patrol GC I/1, but this one is attacked immediately by BF109E. Lieutenant TREBOD crashes on the ground while Lieutenant LEGENTIL must evacuate his burning aircraft. Captain MARECHAL, whose Lieutenant TREBOD was the friend, pursues the BF109E who lowered him. He managed to shoot him in the Velodrome Creil, but he is in turn taken by the teammates of his victim and will crash into the Oise. He is killed instantly.
