Captain Albert COIRAL


Biography

Albert COIRAL was born in April 10, 1909 in Perreux in the Loire (42). His father is a Post and Telegraph clerk and his mother is a teacher at the public school. He is a former student of the Ecole des Mines of Saint-Etienne. After these brilliant studies, he graduated from his promotion at the School of Air Application of Versailles, and obtained his pilot's license in 1932.

On December 19, 1939, Captain COIRAL starts shooting in Mourmelon, and participates in comparative evaluations between MORANE MS406 and BLOCH MB152.

Captain COIRAL disappeared in aerial combat May 14, 1940: his body will never be found.


Some feats of arm

On May 14, 1940, Captain COIRAL commanded a GC II / 1 patrol. This one sees a HENSCHEL HE126 and the attack. The enemy aircraft tries to save itself by biting and the 3 French pilots launch in pursuit. But on the ground, the Flak is waiting for them; Captain COIRAL manages to clear, but Lieutenant MAURIN's BLOCH MB152, severely hit, manages to return to the airfield but is irreparable. It is finally the third pilot, Sergeant LARGEAU who will complete the HENSCHEL 126. The victory is credited to the three pilots. Unfortunately, Captain COIRAL will not return from this mission: neither he nor his plane will ever be found ...
