Biography
Bernard CHALLE was born in October 1906 in Commercy. He is the son of General Georges Challe died in Verdun October 11, 1917, he is the second of a sibling of four boys. His older brother, Leon, was a pilot in the interwar period. His younger brothers, Maurice and Rene, were fighter pilots at the Normandy-Niemen Regiment after joining the FAFL.
He participated in the Battle of France, as commander of the 2nd squadron GC I / 3 on Dewoitine D520, in which he won 7 victories including 4 homologated.
At the end of 1942, he entered the O.R.A. Organization of the Resistance of the Army. Arrested and tortured by the Gestapo in Paris, he was deported to Buchenwald. He returns from deportation after the war in very bad physical condition.In 1959 Major General Bernard Challe commanded the 2nd Air Region.
Disagreeing with the government's policy concerning Algeria, he left the army on May 24, 1961. Bernard Challe died in January 1977 in Paris
